Is GP Rating a good course for a better future in the Merchant Navy? It is a good option if you are not from a 10+2 (pcm) background (otherwise opt for trainee deck officer ,commonly called deck cadet ). Personally I feel that working on ship is better than other professions as it is a better paying job and makes you financially strong. Every course is good. It's totally depend on you in which field you are interested. If you love operating machines then you should choose engineering field where you can start your career as engine cadet in merchant navy. If you love navigation then you have to choose navigation department where you can start your career as deck cadet & you can achieve the rank of captain from deck cadet. There are many other options also like Catering department, ETO...... My advice to you would be to check for yourself if the Institution is approved by the Director General of Shipping, Government of India and the Indian Maritime Universit...
